7 Things Women Are Too Embarrassed to Ask For in Bed

Funny how the same woman who can call you out on your BS and also confidently present at work can suddenly become shy when it comes to talking about physical intimacy.

Many women don’t ask for what they want because they don’t want to seem demanding or afraid of hurting their husband’s ego.

So they stay quiet, hoping he’ll somehow figure it out.

Sometimes he does, many times he doesn’t.

Men are not mind readers. If a woman keeps pretending she’s completely satisfied when she isn’t, both people lose.

Here are some things many women secretly wish they could ask for but are often too embarrassed to say out loud.

7 Things Women Are Too Embarrassed to Ask For in Bed

1. “Slow down.”

I don’t know if it’s the testosterone that makes some men naturally want to get to the destination as quickly as possible, but many wives don’t want things to be rushed.

One of the biggest differences between many men and women is that they experience physical intimacy differently.

Many women need time.

We need time to relax and switch off from the million things running through our minds.

Imagine a woman who has spent the whole day working, cooking, answering phone calls, helping with homework, and thinking of what to pack for the children’s lunch the next day….

You don’t expect her brain to magically become empty because the bedroom door closes.

She needs a gentle transition, like a little more kissing, cuddling, conversation, and laughter, to be in the mood.

Many women are too embarrassed to ask their husbands to slow down because they don’t want to sound difficult or make him feel like he’s doing something wrong.

So they smile, go along with it, and hope next time will be different.

2. “Please compliment my body.”

Some weeks ago, while preparing for a video shoot for one of my songs, I told my makeup artist to cover the stretch marks on my arms with concealer.

My personal assistant looked at me and said, “Since when did you start caring what people think?”

Honestly, I surprised myself.

Unlike many women, I’ve never been ashamed of my (relatively) big arms or my stretch marks. You’ll regularly catch me wearing sleeveless tops and dresses without a second thought.

But that day was different.

It reminded me that no matter how confident a woman is, almost every woman has moments when she becomes a little self-conscious about her body.

Our bodies change through pregnancy, age, hormones, and life circumstances…

That’s why so many wives secretly wish their husbands would compliment their bodies more often.

No, we don’t need constant validation from the world, but there’s something special about hearing the man you love say, “You’re beautiful.”

No compliment from a stranger hits the same way.

A husband who still notices his wife’s smile, her curves, her skin, her eyes, or even tells her, “You look amazing tonight,” isn’t just complimenting her appearance.

He’s reminding her that, despite the passing years and the changes life has brought, she is still desirable in his eyes.

And for many of us, that confidence doesn’t stay in front of the mirror.

It follows us into the bedroom.

3. “Can you be more affectionate outside the bedroom?”

Many men would be shocked at how much what happens outside the bedroom affects what happens inside it.

You cannot ignore your wife all day, barely speak to her, spend hours on your phone, and then expect her to suddenly switch into romantic mode the moment you get into bed.

It doesn’t work that way for many of us.

Physical intimacy starts long before the bedroom.

When you connect with your wife during the day, she’ll find it much easier to connect with you at night.

Of course, this isn’t a formula that guarantees sex every single time, but affection throughout the day fills a woman’s emotional tank in a way many men don’t realize.

Many wives feel embarrassed to ask for more affection because they don’t want to sound clingy.

Don’t reserve tenderness for bedtime. Sprinkle it throughout the entire day.

4. “Please ask what I enjoy.”

One of the realities of life is that people change.

And I actually think that’s one of the most beautiful parts of marriage.

You get to keep discovering the person you married.

The woman you married at twenty-eight will not be exactly the same woman at thirty-eight.

That’s why I believe one of the greatest mistakes couples make is assuming they already know everything about each other.

Marriage should be a lifelong adventure of studying your spouse, not interrogating them, but remaining curious.

You can even ask, “What do you enjoy these days?”

“Is there anything you’d like us to do differently?”

Your spouse isn’t a project you finish.

They’re a person you keep discovering for the rest of your life.

5. “Don’t make me feel judged.”

As pleasurable as physical intimacy can be, it is also one of the most vulnerable experiences two people can share.

No matter how much you love each other, there is still a part of you that is completely exposed.

You’re not just physically uncovered, you’re emotionally uncovered too.

Many women are afraid of being judged for how they look, for what they don’t know, for being too shy, for trying something new….

So instead of looking forward to physical intimacy, she starts worrying about whether she’ll do something “wrong.”

The safest marriages are those where both the husband and wife know they can be completely themselves without fear of embarrassment or ridicule.

A woman who feels emotionally safe is far more likely to relax, communicate, and enjoy being intimate with her husband.

6. “Stay with me afterward.”

I have a whole post on the mistakes couples make after physical intimacy because this topic deserves an article of its own.

Many people think the experience ends the moment it’s over.

But no, what happens afterward is just as important as what happened before.

Those few minutes after physical intimacy are when most of us feel the closest to our husbands.

We want to cuddle, talk, laugh, or just lie quietly in each other’s arms.

Unfortunately, most husbands immediately reach for their phone, jump out of bed to do something else, or roll over and fall asleep.

Before the men come for me in the comments, I know some of you genuinely cannot help falling asleep afterward. Biology is real.

However, never underestimate the power of those quiet moments after physical intimacy.

Sometimes the conversation you have while lying in each other’s arms becomes the part your spouse remembers the most.

7. “Please don’t make me guess if you still desire me.”

Earlier today, I found myself thinking about how marriage is both one of the most beautiful and most complicated relationships you’ll ever have.

One of those complications is that you can be loved, cared for, respected, and still not feel desired.

Those are not the same thing.

A husband can be caring, faithful, provide for his family, and be a wonderful father.

All of those things communicate love, but desire is, “I still look at you, and my heart skips a beat.”

Desire says, “Come here.”

It steals a kiss while you’re washing the dishes, it flirts, and makes you feel like you’re still the woman he chose.

So, most wives are not questioning whether their husbands love them; they’re wondering whether their husbands still want them.

Because in a long marriage, love may keep the relationship alive, but feeling desired helps keep the romance alive.
