6 Things Wives Do to Feel Desired Again in Their Marriage

It’s funny how some people think that only insecure women or women with low self-esteem want to feel desired by their husbands.

As if confidence cancels out the need to feel wanted.

No matter how successful, beautiful, educated, spiritual, independent, or confident you are, you want to be desired by the man you love.

You can have the confidence of a billionaire CEO and still enjoy hearing your husband say, “You look beautiful.”

Feeling desired is one of the ways we experience emotional connection, and feeling invisible in your own marriage is painful.

So here are some things wives often do when they’re trying to feel desired again:

6 Things Wives Do to Feel Desired Again

1. She puts extra effort into her appearance

Many men don’t realize that their wives aren’t trying to impress strangers.

In fact, most women care far more about being noticed by their husbands than by anyone else.

No matter how many compliments I receive from other people, none of them hit quite like a compliment from the man I’m married to.

You can have a hundred people tell you that you look beautiful, but if the person whose opinion matters most says nothing, you can still feel unseen.

When a wife suddenly starts dressing up more often, trying new hairstyles, wearing perfume around the house, or paying closer attention to her appearance, people sometimes assume she’s doing it to seek attention elsewhere.

Not necessarily.

Many wives are simply hoping their husbands notice.

They want him to pause for a second, say, “Wow, you look amazing,” and look at them the way he did when they were dating.

I remember getting a new hairstyle once and spending the entire day waiting for my husband to notice it.

Afternoon passed, evening arrived, nothing.

At some point, I felt like carrying my head to where he was sitting and saying, “Sir, kindly inspect what has happened here.”

We laugh about it now, but the truth is that women notice when they’re not being noticed.

And after years of marriage, being desired still matters because a wife wants to know that her husband still sees her as more than the mother of his children, the cook, the cleaner, the planner, or the woman who reminds everyone where their socks are.

She wants to know she’s still the woman who makes his heart skip a beat.

2. She posts more flattering photos online

Social media has become many people’s unofficial confidence booster.

A wife who doesn’t feel seen at home may find herself posting more pictures online just to prove she’s still attractive.

She’s not necessarily looking for another man.

You know that feeling when you post a photo and your husband scrolls past it without reacting, but fifty strangers are dropping compliments?

It’s a strange experience.

The compliments don’t replace what she truly wants.

What she wants is for the man she married to see her.

Attention from strangers feels good for a moment, but attention from your husband feels like home.

3. She fishes for compliments

When I’m dressed up and get no compliments from my husband, I eventually find myself asking the question many wives ask,

“So… how do I look?”

The question is rarely about the outfit.

I already know I look good. The mirror has confirmed it.

What I’m really asking is, “Do you see me?”

“Do you still find me attractive?”

Women are often accused of fishing for compliments, but many times they’re simply fishing for reassurance.

Marriage has a way of making people comfortable, in fact, too comfortable.

Every wife wants to know that familiarity hasn’t killed admiration, that after all these years, her husband can still look at her and think, “Wow. See my wife.”

No matter how confident a woman is, she longs to be desired by the man she loves.

And “How do I look?” is her way of asking for a reminder.

4. She becomes more playful and flirtatious

I’m naturally a very playful person.

In fact, one of my favorite parts of marriage is being silly with my husband.

Life is serious enough already. The least we can do is laugh a little.

But I’ve also noticed over the years that many wives become even more playful when they’re craving connection from their husbands.

They send random texts during the day, tease him, sit closer than usual, and find excuses to touch him.

From the outside, it looks like she’s just being fun and affectionate, but sometimes there’s more to it than that.

Sometimes she’s trying to recreate the feeling you both had when you were dating, as one of the biggest mistakes married couples make is assuming flirting belongs to the dating stage.

Flirting should never leave a marriage.

In fact, many marriages desperately need more of it.

5. She seeks validation through achievements

Not every wife responds emotionally when she doesn’t feel desired.

Some throw themselves into productivity.

They become obsessed with work, start new businesses, pursue degrees, and literally fill their calendars until there is barely room to think.

It looks like ambition, and sometimes it is.

I know this because I’m a naturally ambitious person.

I enjoy working, setting goals, and chasing them.

But if I don’t feel desired by my husband, I’d focus more intensely on my goals.

So, when a wife doesn’t feel appreciated in one area of her life, it’s natural to seek fulfillment in another.

Unfortunately, you can build an impressive life and still go to bed feeling emotionally empty if the person you love most barely notices you anymore.

6. She starts comparing the present to the past

These days, you don’t even need to rack your brain to revisit the past.

Google Photos, OneDrive, and even Facebook will remind you.

Every day, some app pops up with a notification that says, “Look what happened five years ago today.”

Those memories can be both beautiful and painful.

You’ll see photos from your dating years, screenshots of old conversations, pictures from your honeymoon, and videos of the two of you laughing over absolutely nothing.

And suddenly you’re reminded of a version of your relationship different from what you have now.

I get these memory notifications all the time.

Every healthy marriage evolves; the problem is when all the romance and affection disappear along with the butterflies.

So when a wife stops feeling desired, she thinks back to when she was desired, trying to understand what changed.

She’s comparing the man who couldn’t keep his hands off her with the one who walks past her without noticing her new hairstyle.

Most wives are not asking for the honeymoon phase to last forever.

We are not expecting our husbands to behave like a love-struck twenty-year-old for the next fifty years.

We simply want evidence that the man who pursued us still exists somewhere beneath the routines and pressures of everyday life.

Most wives don’t need grand gestures every day.

We don’t need roses every week or expensive vacations every month.

We just want to be appreciated and feel attractive to the man we married.
