Actions have consequences, and many times, you don’t get to choose what the consequences are.
You don’t even have to believe in the existence of the spiritual realm to believe in the cause-and-effect principle.
It’s plain logic.
But if you do believe in the spiritual aspect of life and understand that God exists and hates sin, then you most likely already know that there are spiritual consequences for sleeping with a married man.
I mean, I’ve thought about this many times and even gotten asked this question by someone before.
And so, I thought putting this article together would do justice to the topic.
Whether you believe in the spiritual or not, I know you’re curious to find out what these spiritual consequences are.
Well, I won’t keep you in suspense any further.
Let’s delve right into it.
8 Spiritual Consequences Of Sleeping With A Married Man
1. You disconnect from God
“It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.” Isaiah 59:2 NLT
Let us first establish this fact: sleeping with a married man is a sin by all standards, and that’s why we’re talking about consequences in the first place.
Having established that the first and one of the most significant consequences of sleeping with a married man is a strain in your relationship with God.
People who value their spirituality and know the importance of their relationship with God know best to avoid anything that will take that away from Him.
Sleeping with a married man will make you feel distant from God.
Sin creates a divide between you and God and takes away the freedom and openness you feel when you come before Him.
2. You open yourself up to spirits
Sex goes beyond a physical act of pleasure that people engage in to have fun.
It is a deep form of intimacy and connection that brings two people together with their bodies, souls, and spirits intertwining.
When you engage in any form of sin, particularly sexual sin, you expose yourself spiritually.
You break the hedge around you, making yourself accessible to whatever negative spirits the person carries.
This makes you susceptible to various spiritual attacks, and because your relationship with God is strained, you find it difficult to run to Him for help.
3. You plant a seed that you will harvest
What I mean is that you get a taste of your medicine.
Ever heard of “karma”?
Well, did you know that even the Bible speaks of something similar?
“Do to others as you would like them to do to you.”
Luke 6:31 NLT
This implies that when you treat other people a certain way, you inadvertently choose what can be done to you.
Sleeping with a married man does not only have negative consequences for you.
It also affects other people, such as his wife, children, and other connections that he has.
Relationships and families become strained because of his infidelity, and as much as it’s the man’s fault, it is yours also because you are involved in the situation.
The spiritual connection within his family is also affected because unity and oneness are broken.
His wife and children, who are unfortunate victims of your illicit affairs, may lay a curse on you, and even if they don’t, you have sown a seed that will deliver a bitter harvest in the future.
It is just a law of the spirit; “whatever a man sows, that also he reaps.”
Now, think about this train of negative effects of your sexual relationship with a married man and try to imagine them happening to you sometime in the future.
The truth is that even if you do not want to imagine it, chances are very high that it will happen to you, too.
Someday, when you have a husband, someone may sleep with him too, making you experience what this married man’s family has experienced.
Sometimes, this may not even happen in the area of marriage.
It may happen in other ways; someone may show up and take what is rightfully yours because that is exactly what you did.
4. You make God your enemy
“Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge immoral people and those who commit adultery. Hebrews 13:4 NLT
God is the inventor and originator of marriage.
Marriage was His idea, and He cherishes the institution.
What this means is that if anyone is intruding into this institution and causing a division, such a person is fighting God’s plan.
When you fight someone or something, you make that person your enemy.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t think it’s a great idea to have God on the other side of a battle you’re fighting.
5. Guilt and remorse
You’re very likely going to be filled with feelings of guilt, remorse, or even shame after sleeping with a married man, and that shows that you have a conscience.
The act of sleeping with a married man, no matter how popular it has become, is not normal.
And if you uphold high moral values and standards, you will find yourself feeling bad about what you have done.
This will hurt your spiritual and overall well-being because these feelings of shame and reproach cage you.
You feel disappointed in yourself, and your self-esteem may take a downward spiral.
6. Declined spiritual growth
This is a no-brainer.
Your spiritual growth will be obstructed obviously due to all the reasons mentioned above.
You stop living and showing up as your true and highest self because of the weight of your actions.
You may find it difficult to spend time meditating, praying, and studying your Bible because you are neck-deep in sin and guilt.
All of these ultimately regress your spiritual life and make you a worse version of yourself.
7. Your mind becomes unhealthy
Your actions can make you have or strengthen the wrong mindsets in your mind.
Your respect for the institution of marriage further goes down, and you have a warped perspective about it.
You are unable to imagine people in healthy and faithful relationships because you think everyone has something to hide.
This will make you believe that you can not have a healthy relationship and marriage, too, because you think every married man is the same.
8. You miss the opportunity to meet the right man
Sleeping with a married man can make you miss the opportunity to meet the right man for you.
When you choose to get entangled with a man who is already married, you sell yourself short.
Not just because you are unlikely to end up having him to yourself.
But also because your entanglement with him can make you unavailable to other single guys who are potentially great partners for you.
This is not good for you because instead of having a guiltless, happy, and wholesome relationship with a man who is committed to you alone, you have to settle for being in an entanglement with a married man.
People have different reasons for the things that they do, and ultimately, the decisions on what to do in their lives are theirs.
However, a good way to determine if you should make a decision or not is by weighing the potential consequences.
It is also great to consider the potential hurt your actions can cause you and other people connected to that situation.
Engaging in an extramarital affair, such as sleeping with a married man, has a plethora of negative consequences, and I only mentioned a few of the spiritual consequences above.
These consequences can be more depending on your unique situation.
It is best to avoid being in this situation and find out how bad it can get.
A wiser thing would be to avoid it, but if you have already slept with a married man, acknowledging your wrong is a great place to start.
Knowing that you did wrong will not erase the effects of your actions on the people concerned, neither will it take back the hands of time.
But it is a great posture to have in order to begin the process of seeking forgiveness and redemption.
You can choose to speak with a trusted spiritual leader who can help guide you as you navigate this season of repentance.
Whichever of the consequences you’re facing (whether they are mentioned above or not) can be stopped with genuine repentance and prayers.
