Have you ever felt like the cosmos themselves were trying to nudge you in a particular direction, especially when it comes to matters of the heart?

I know it might sound like something out of a mystical novel, but for those who believe in the power of manifesting and energy, it’s not that far-fetched.

Many believe that the universe sends us signs and messages to guide us on our journey, including when it’s time to let go of a relationship.

If you’re currently dating someone and feeling unsure about whether or not to continue the relationship, here are some signs from the universe to put the thought of being together to rest.

6 Signs the Universe Wants You to Stop Dating Someone

1. Your intuition keeps disturbing you

I know some of us like evidence.

We want screenshots, receipts, voice notes, CCTV footage, a signed confession, and maybe three witnesses before we admit that something is wrong.

But sometimes, your spirit knows before your brain can explain.

You meet someone, and everything looks okay on paper.

They are nice, they have a good job, they say all the right things, they are not openly terrible, but something inside you is not settled.

You can’t explain it, but you can feel it.

And it’s not that you are overthinking. Your intuition is just doing its own job.

Because we women can be very emotional when we like someone, we may start negotiating with our own intuition.

“Maybe I’m just scared.”

“Maybe I have trust issues.”

Yes, sometimes fear can disguise itself as intuition, so you need wisdom.

But if the feeling keeps coming back, especially when there are patterns to support it, please don’t ignore it.

Your intuition is not your enemy.

Sometimes, it is the friend trying to drag you away from fire while you are busy admiring the smoke.

2. The relationship is full of constant arguments and misunderstandings

No relationship is smooth sailing all the time.

If you expect to date someone and never disagree, never get offended, never misunderstand each other, and never have uncomfortable conversations, my dear, you are not looking for a relationship.

You are looking for a cartoon.

Disagreements are even healthy because they show you how someone communicates, handles pressure, and whether they can be corrected without behaving like you slapped their ancestors.

But constant fighting is not normal.

If you and this person are always arguing and always trying to fix what broke again yesterday, you need to ask yourself what exactly you are building.

Some relationships don’t give you love.

They give you assignments because you are always solving something.

Not every relationship is meant to be fought for like war.

Love should challenge you, yes, but it should not constantly exhaust you.

3. You doubt the relationship more than you enjoy it

While I was preparing for my wedding, I had doubts.

I was afraid.

What if this man turned out to be the exact opposite of what he claimed to be?

What if things don’t work out?

In the midst of my doubts, I knew I wanted to do this and was ready for whatever lay ahead.

Yes, there were doubts, but there was love and joy, and a decade later, we are still crazy about each other.

So, some doubts are normal, like wondering,

“Are we moving too fast?”

“Are we compatible?”

“Can we build a future together?”

“Do we handle conflict well?”

That kind of doubt can be useful because it makes you think deeply instead of just floating on butterflies and vibes.

But if you spend more time questioning the relationship than enjoying it, pay attention.

If you are always wondering whether they really like you, whether they are telling the truth, whether you can trust them, whether you are settling, whether this is the kind of love you want, that is not peace…

That is emotional confusion.

A good relationship may not answer every question immediately, but it should not leave you constantly unstable.

4. You are the only one making an effort

Someone’s effort is a reflection of how much they value you and the relationship.

So, one-sided effort is one of the loudest signs that a relationship is not balanced.

Don’t romanticize suffering.

If you are always the one calling, texting, planning, apologizing, and carrying the relationship on your head like gala in Lagos traffic, what exactly is the other person doing?

And I know what some of us do.

We make excuses.

“He’s just busy.”

“She has a lot going on.”

“He is not expressive.”

“She is not good with communication.”

Fine.

People can be busy, but even busy people make time for what matters to them.

The one who is not expressive will become an orator when they are with someone they love.

Stop making excuses!

We are adults; we know what we are doing.

.

5. Constant Negative Signs

When it rains, it pours.

And the same can be said for negative signs in a relationship.

Like every time you plan a date, something goes wrong.

Maybe the restaurant loses your reservation, you have a bad fight, or you both end up feeling sick.

Or every time you talk about your future together, something negative happens, like one of you gets laid off from a job or experiences a health scare.

These may seem like coincidences, but it could be a sign from the universe that this relationship is not meant to be.

No relationship is perfect, but negativity shouldn’t be a constant presence.

6. Your values are pulling you in different directions

Love is sweet, but values are the foundation. And foundation is not where you play games.

You can have chemistry with someone and still be completely wrong for each other.

I mean you can laugh together, gist for hours, enjoy the same movies, have cute dates, and still be heading in opposite directions in life.

That is why values matter.

Values are like the GPS for your life.

When you enter a relationship, you are basically saying, “Let us travel together.”

But if one person is going north and the other is going south, love will not remove the confusion. It will only make the journey more painful.

I am not talking about small differences like one person likes coffee and the other likes tea, just like my husband and I. I’m a coffee addict, he’s a tea person.

I like sleeping with lights on, but he doesn’t. Those things can be managed.

But the big things like

Faith.

Integrity.

Family.

Money.

Marriage.

Children.

Career.

Lifestyle.

Boundaries.

Purpose.

Gender roles.

How you handle conflict.

What you believe is right and wrong.

These things matter.

For example, I cannot date, let alone marry, someone of a different faith.

There is no committee meeting about it.

It is a no for me because I know our values will eventually clash in ways that love alone cannot solve.

That may not be your own deal-breaker, but you need to know what your deal-breakers are; otherwise, you will wake up one day and realize you betrayed yourself to keep someone who was never going in your direction.

Even if the universe is not showing you any specific sign, if you notice these six signs in your relationship, you should wonder if you are in the right relationship.
