Everyone desires glowing skin but not everyone has glowing skin.
Apart from genetic influence, which is beyond human power and manipulation, achieving glowing skin is largely determined by things we do and do not do.
Even if you have glowing skin naturally, if you do not maintain it, it is only a matter of time, you will lose your glow.
If you have glowing skin and you are not doing much to maintain it or you are like me, not naturally gifted in the glowing skin department, this article is for you.
Below are 12 habits of people who glow and look flawless:
- They understand their skin type
How can you look flawless if you do not know your skin type?
Everyone does not have the same skin type even if they look similar.
It took me years to realise that there are different skin types—dry, oily, combination.
I have dry and sensitive skin, unfortunately.
People who have flawless skin understand their skin type.
Everything you will do and not do to and for your skin starts from you knowing your skin type.
- They use products suitable for their skin type
You cannot look flawless if you have dry skin but use skincare products meant for people with oily skin and vice versa.
People who have flawless skin use skincare products that are suitable for their skin type.
I recently realised this as well.
Not every skincare product is meant for everyone, no matter how popular or hyped they are.
I usually make the mistake of buying skincare products because of their many positive reviews not minding if they are for my skin type or not.
If you constantly feed your skin with the unsuitable products, you cannot glow.
- They read the ingredients in their skincare products before using them
People who have flawless skin do not just apply skincare products without knowing what they are made of.
Some skincare products contain ingredients that you might be allergic to or products that should not be used for a long period of time such as hydroquinone.
If you do not read the ingredients, how will you know what you are applying on your body (your face especially, because it’s more sensitive than the rest of your body)?
- They know what works for them and stick to it
I am a skincare junkie.
I love to try new products, and this usually lands me in trouble because I have sensitive skin that reacts to almost everything.
However, the times I find products that my skin loves and stick to them, I glow and look enviably flawless.
People who look flawless know the products that suit their skin and stick to them.
This does not mean that they are not on the lookout for products that will enhance their looks.
While it’s okay to be on the lookout for skincare products that can help you to achieve your skin goals, it’ll be difficult to achieve flawless skin if you make your skin, especially facial skin, an experiment for every skincare product you come across or hear about.
When you find something that really works for you, stick to them, and do not experiment unnecessarily.
- They exfoliate
You cannot look flawless if you do not get rid of the dead skin cells on the outer layer of your skin.
Even though the skin exfoliates naturally every 28 to 30 days, using exfoliants helps to speed up the process and remove stubborn dead skin cells to reveal softer, clearer, smoother, and more glowing skin.
You should exfoliate about two to three times weekly.
However, some products like tea tree facial scrub are gentle enough to be used daily.
Tea tree facial scrub is one of the most amazing and unbelievably affordable facial scrubs out there.
You should try it.
- They have a skincare routine
Even if you inherited the most flawless skin, if you do not have a skincare regimen that you follow diligently, it is just a matter of time, you will blow it.
If you do not take care of your skin, your skin will not look its best.
It is just that simple.
Good things do not come easy. The celebrities whose looks we admire go a long way to achieve their looks.
Some even go under the knife.
But you do not have to go to that length to achieve a flawless look.
Having a skincare routine will greatly benefit you.
It will make it easier for you to pamper your skin since you already know what to do.
- They drink plenty of water
Proper hydration is essential to looking flawless.
Drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily helps to get rid of toxins from the body, thus improving skin tone and giving the skin a radiant glow.
Dehydration tells on the skin and hair.
Also, water contains zero calories, it is healthy and keeps the weight away.
- They stay away from toxic relationships
Beauty is from inside out.
You cannot glow if you are trapped in relationships that zap your joy, peace, energy, and sanity.
Have you noticed how some women glow after they quit a toxic relationship?
If you want to glow, you need to be protective of your joy and peace, because they make you genuinely glow.
No amount of makeup can mask an unhappy heart.
- They use the right makeup
You cannot glow and look flawless if you mask your face under a lousy makeup.
You do not have to break a bank to wear the right makeup.
What is most important is choosing the right makeup for your skin tone.
- They practise good hygiene
You cannot glow if you have poor hygiene.
How often do you change your bedding?
How often do you wash your bath towels?
Do you have a separate towel for your face or you use the same towel for your face and body?
Do you keep your hands off your face or your hands are constantly on your face?
Your answers to these questions show how hygienic you are as pertains to your skincare.
- They let their face breathe
You cannot glow if you have a habit of going to bed with your makeup on.
You should remove your makeup (preferably with micellar water or any cleanser of your choice) and apply your night skincare products before going to bed.
- They take care of their body
People who glow and look flawless take care of their body by eating well, sleeping when necessary and exercising.
What you eat tells on your skin.
So also, your eyes will show it if you have not been getting enough sleep.
Exercising keeps you in shape (alongside a healthy diet, of course) and makes you active.
You need to engage in healthy habits to be healthy, and you need to be healthy to glow and look flawless.
Good things do not come cheap.
If you want to glow, you’ve got to put in the work.
