How to Discover Your Hidden Potentials

Are you experiencing self-doubts? Or have you ever experienced self-doubt? Well, welcome to the program… it is more common than you think.

Many of us can relate to self-doubts because we don’t think we are as amazing as we really are, when in fact, we are just cutting ourselves short.
According to a popular quote by Marianne Williamson,

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Every creature of God is powerful beyond measure but sometimes, apart from being afraid, we have just not taken the time to discover our hidden potentials.

So how can you discover your (hidden) potentials?

How to Discover Your (Hidden) Potentials

1. Discover your passion

In many cases, our hidden potentials are hidden within what makes us happy and what we are most passionate about.

Take a little time to self-reflect and ask yourself what activities give you the most satisfaction and that makes time fly away without you noticing.

This is not simply something you are good at but also something you enjoy; something that comes naturally to you and something you should be doing.

Apart from the fact that you will be good at it and therefore, liable to do great if you take on that venture, no venture worth taking comes easy and so, passion is the only thing that will keep you going when the going gets tough.

Passion is what will keep you from giving up because though there are challenges, you are doing something you enjoy.

2. Find out your strengths

The second thing you need to discover is what you are good at. For this point, it is a bit tricky because there are so many things we are good at that might not be the best venture for us to undertake.

As we grow in life, we pick up a lot of skills that were either browbeaten into us or as a result of necessity or just based on our environment. But all these skills are not necessarily our potentials, however, some of them definitely are.

So, the onus is on you to look within yourself and ask yourself pertinent questions: what are your strengths?

Among them, which ones do you enjoy doing and which ones would you rather never do? Which do you not necessarily enjoy but can also stand doing?

The ones you enjoy doing the most will point you to your hidden potential.

3. Find out your greatest pain or problem

The biggest problem you have with life just might be waiting for you to proffer a solution.

If there is something seriously bugging you about your life or society, maybe you should look inwards to discover why such a thing is bothering you so much.

It is possible that a deep self-reflection might just point you to the solution to that problem for yourself and others.

4. Be open to opportunities and change

Sometimes, we do not always have it all figured out from the start.

Kudos to those who do but not everybody has that luxury of figuring out their life by the time they were teenagers or even in their 30s; believe it, there are many like that, so don’t beat yourself up too hard.

Just be open to opportunities to discover yourself more. There are times life will make you go through different experiences that will open your mind to what you should be doing, so don’t be rigid and be sensitive.

5. Surround yourself with positivity

Another thing you need to do to discover your hidden potentials is to surround yourself with positivity.

To start, you have to conquer every negativity in your mind.

Trust me, when you start thinking about what to do to change your life, self-doubts will set in, fear of failure will set in and if you don’t conquer it, you will give up before you start.

This is why it is very important to first deal with fear in your mind and stand against it.

Secondly, you have to shut out the voices of negativity around you; stay away from family and friends who have nothing but discouraging pieces of advice to dish out.

It doesn’t mean they are bad people; they are just projecting how they also feel about themselves to you. It might do you a world of good to refrain from even telling them about your dreams till you have actualized it.

If you start talking about your potentials with negative people, they will not understand and will share their negativity with you in the guise of wisdom. Stay positive and be around positivity.

Life itself is not an easy or smooth ride but we all have something that has been deposited by God that when we discover, it is only a matter of time before the world hears of us.
